It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of the late Millecent Angnes Prosper (nee Charles), known to many as Millie.
Millie was born on the 30th of January 1933 in Roseau Dominica West Indies, this is where she grew up and was educated at Roseau Girls School. Millie was a dedicated scholar with many interests, her favourites being sewing and needlecraft.
Upon leaving school Millie became a self-employed seamstress and people would come from all around the island to buy her costumes and creations.
In 1960 Mille joined the Windrush generation and took a leap of faith to travel to the UK. Firstly living in London then moving and settling in Bradford to be closer to family.
In1978 Millie married Harris Maximea Prosper affectionately known as Max and there family began to grow.
Millie was a devoted mother to Roy, loving Grandmother to Ross and Layla Greenaway and Great Grandmother to Harry. She leaves behind her Husband Max, sister Bertha Daisy, brother Smith Polydore and many cousins. Millie was also an aunt and great-aunt to many.
She enjoyed dancing, reading and of course sewing, she was a talented seamstress always on the look out for a project to put her skills to good use, making garments for the local community and making people happy in the process.
Millie was a devout Catholic and attended St Joseph's Church becoming a well known character amongsth the congregation. Millie finally retired from St Lukes Hospital in 1993 where she worked as a caterer.
Millicent passed peacefully at the age of 93 years on the 19th of February 2026.
