Prem Singh Chadha was born in Sargodha Pakistan in 1929.
He was a resilient man who survived the partition with his parents and siblings at the young age of 18. Once in India, he worked his way to become the Chief Licensing Officer for New Delhi. He moved to London in 1959 and 5 years later, was joined by his wife Gian and daughter Natasha. In England, he joined British Rail and they moved to their current home in 1966, where his son, Kanwal was born in 1968.
He had a remarkable life as a man who lived to 96 years, embodying strength, determination, and generosity. After his wife Gian passed away, he lived independently for 19 years, hosting many visitors with home-cooked meals and creating a welcoming home filled with stories about his past and photographs of his loved ones. Over the 60 years his neighbours became his extended family and they knew he was always there to help. Even in his final year, as he began to rely on others for care, he wanted to make sure there was plenty of food and drinks in the fridge and was always a gracious host.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, survived by two children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren who will dearly miss his phone calls, hugs, his big English breakfasts and chicken curry dinners. His spirit endures in the kindness and connections he inspired, reminding us to live with purpose and generosity.
May his Soul Rest in Peace
