More Background
My most dear and beloved wife, Naomi, my best friend, confidant and teacher, my wellspring of joy and light, truth seeker and truth sayer since 26th December 1972, died peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning on 23rd May 2026.
She had her first seizure on 14th January 2018 but came back miraculously after 13 minutes. The medics were amazed at the time and cautioned that her senses, perceptions and actions might be impaired but in fact her vision improved to the point where her lower power glasses from 30 years ago gave her better vision than her current ones. However, at the time, she was also told by the consultant that if she had another seizure, it would be fatal. In the following years, she gave me companionship, encouragement to be more heart centred and guidance on opening my awareness especially on the emotional level. Many others also benefitted from her generous, far sighted spirit and unconditional giving nature.
We had just celebrated our 52nd wedding anniversary on the 11th May 2026. We first met on December 26th 1972 and married about 2 years later. She was a remarkable woman, always looking out for others in a compassionate, supporting way. She had tirelessly gathered material for about 6 books which would feature her heart opening and heart warming photographs of roses, other flowers and plants married with a mind quietening and absorbing quotation from highly evolved writers such as Tagore, Rumi and numerous others. Her research, combined with her prodigious memory and skill at finding unusual links, was uncovering facts and connections missed by others. She was just starting to research material for a book on her great step grandfather, Patrick Lovett who was a well known journalist in India in the 1920’s.
She was so looking forward to attending the Jaipur Literature Festival on the 29th -31st May at Trinity College Dublin and contributing to the discussions with her deep knowledge of Tagore, India, Ireland, Great Britain and Russia amongst others and greatly enhanced by her enlightened and compassionate outlook on life. As well, she was enjoying the intention of returning to her birthplace in Sandy Cove and revisiting Trinity College Dublin which her father attended after the 2nd World War.
I will remember her as a truth seeker and a truth sayer with a highly developed creative flair for combining tastefully matched, beautiful and colourful outfits which always seemed to enhance her natural light. As well, I will remember her taking uplifting photos of nature and seeking out matching gems of wisdom from her favourite inspiring authors who were seekers of enlightenment and, by their works, were helping to further the progress of the human spirit. She only had a basic camera for her work but her images were so filled with the spirit of the plant that they were more beautiful than the original. I once remember Naomi showing me a stunning image of a bluebell and asking her where she had found such a perfect specimen. She replied that it was by our front fence which I had blindly passed by in complete ignorance of the beauty that was in plain sight under my nose!
She was of all faiths and none and respected all individual practices that succeeded in tuning into the presence of God as seen by their actions rather than their words. She was a Christian and was also drawn to the Greek Orthodox version of Christianity, the other Abrahamic faiths as well as those of the sub-continent. She was highly skilled in quietening her mind and opening her awareness in meditative practices. This inner quietness and awareness followed her into activity and helped many who met her to open up to her at very deep heart felt levels. She often felt attuned to the guiding light of the spirit of the Christ and had memorised the Lord’s prayer in Aramaic, Jesus’s native language, and could chant it in a resonant, heartfelt way. She was involved in prayer circles and believed that prayer arising from a quiet inner stillness was a powerful solution to healing the ills of the world.
She is now in the region of light and in the true reality where all is visible, open and heart centred. She is now a light being and one of the properties of light is the ability, from it’s perspective, to be everywhere, all at once. May she rest in peace knowing that she did all she could to bring in the light of truth and foster mutual understanding and caring compassion in all those she met.
