Remembering Jean with love and gratitude. Her life was devoted to caring for other people, first as a young Sunday School teacher, then as a nurse, a midwife, and a community health visitor. Later she moved into management in the NHS, becoming Chief Nursing Officer for the whole of the West Midlands Health Authority and working on behalf of 22,000 nurses.
Alongside her busy career, Jean was a lifelong member of th Methodist Church and her unwavering faith guided and comforted her. When she retired, she moved to Polperro in Cornwall where she became a valued member of the community. After the devastating flood in 1993 which destroyed her house and a hundred others, Jean became the driving force behind the flood relief scheme which to this day protects the village.
Jean returned to the Midlands in 2004 to help care for friends and relatives who needed her. But life was difficult for Jean in her own old age; her hearing and eyesight failed and severe osteoarthritis made movement painful. But she tried to keep cheerful and was always grateful for the care and support of her friends in the village. She had a busy, productive life, and those who loved her will miss her very much and never forget her.
