Maureen Fresco, my mother, lived to the ripe old age of 98. She enjoyed life to the full, having occupations ranging from Librarian in Essex, to Radio Announcer & Disc Jockey in Cyprus, to owning a Post Office and General Store in Suffolk, to Exam Invigilator in Ely. She had always loved helping others, and after retiring and taking an OU Degree, volunteered her time and expertise with various charitable organisations, from the Citizens Advice Bureau to Fenprobe Talking Magazine for the Blind, and more locally, Littleport Time Bank. She enjoyed spending her time visiting and chatting to her lonely "elderly people", most of whom were several years younger than her. She always loved the theatre and dining out, both with my father Harry, and with their friends.
In the last year her health and mobility were failing, but she would still try to get out on her mobility scooter to see friends and enjoy her Wednesday Lunch Club. Finally, in late July, she realized she could no longer look after herself and decided to move into the Littleport Grange Nursing Home. Their support gave her a new lease of life, and once again she could go out visiting local attractions and lunch clubs.
Sadly, on Wednesday 27th November, after a short illness, she passed peacefully away, surrounded by family and carers.
Please make donations in lieu of flowers to her favorite charities, Fenprobe or East Anglian Air Ambulances
