It is with deep sadness to announce that Dulcie passed away at home shortly after Christmas Day 2025, aged 97 years.
Born in Madras, British India, Dulcie was the third and youngest daughter of Percival and Minette Walker. After attending Baldwins Girls' School in Bangalore, where she excelled at athletics, Dulcie trained and practised as a nurse and, later, as a midwife in both India and Britain. She travelled extensively before marrying aircraft engineer Harold Miranda in 1959; their first daughter, Lynette, was born the following year.
The family left India shortly after the Sino-Indian War, moving first to Bahrain and then to London where their second daughter, Maggie, was born. They settled in Wimbledon in 1970; during that time Dulcie worked as a midwife at the former Nelson Hospital in Merton and then, for a long period, at St George's Hospital in Tooting until her retirement. In 2000 Dulcie moved with her husband to Northampton - where she had trained as a midwife at the Barratt Maternity Home in the 1950s - and became a much-loved member of the local community.
Raised as a Methodist, Dulcie began practising as a Catholic following her marriage and continued to attend mass at St Gregory's Catholic Church into her nineties. Reunited with her husband, daughter Lynette, and sisters Iris and Joan, Dulcie will be greatly missed by her loving family - including her surviving daughter Maggie and son-in-law Kieran; grandchildren David, Andrew, and Claire; and great-grandchildren Eloise and Albert - many friends, and all who knew her.
Dulcie requested no flowers at her funeral and, instead, asked for donations in aid of RNIB (using the 'Make A Donation' button at the end of this page) and/or Age UK (via this link).
For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the funeral service will be available.
