Jim sadly passed away at St Peter’s Hospice on 30th July 2026, aged 79.
A loving brother to his siblings, Jim was born to Ruby and Norman Madams in Devon in 1946.
Jim served in the Royal Artillery and was parachute qualified before travelling the world and eventually settling in Bristol to raise his family. He went on to have a varied career, working as a produce manager, a probation officer, managing director of a stamp firm, and finally as an administrative manager at B&Q before retiring.
Jim also had his own army of love around him in his five children Dunja, Rachel, Mark, Shaun and Paul, and their spouses whose care, love and continued support was with him throughout his life and until the end. He knew they were always there for him, just as he had always been there for them.
Jim adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was immensely proud of the people they became. He cherished every moment with them.
He was tragically widowed last year following the loss of his beloved wife, Christine, after many happy years togther and the family take comfort in knowing they are together again.
In his final months, Jim was cared for and supported at home with great warmth by Agnes, Judith, Hali, Isla and Sophie, whose care helped retain his dignity and meant so much to him and to his family, who remain deeply grateful to them.
Jim will be remembered for his warmth, his strong-mindedness and determination, his dry sense of humour, and his love of a family party. He rarely missed an opportunity to support the Bristol Bear’s rugby team and always had time for a glass of red wine, good company, and good banter.
Jim will be laid to rest privately, with cremation at 8:30am on 14th August 2026. Family and friends are asked to raise a toast to him at that time.
No flowers please. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly ask that anyone wishing to remember Jim consider making a donation to St Peter’s Hospice, helping them to offer that same comfort and dignity to other families, free of charge, at the link below.
