From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
service was first class for my mother as was 30 yrs ago when my father was there i would recommend to anyone thank you
We really appreciate you taking the time out to share your experience online with us. It helps other families in their time of need. Thank you and I am happy that you confided in us as a team to take care of your loved one.
We were all really pleased with our service from FC Woods, from the moment we first went to see Kim until after the funeral itself.
My Nan had pre-paid for a funeral plan which was her way of making sure the family didn’t have to worry financially but it was also nice for us to know that all the choices made in the plan were what nan would have wanted so that the service would have been to her liking. Kim was excellent at telling us exactly what was included in the plan and showed us all the choices nan had made.
The staff at FC Woods kept in touch with any updates and always answered any questions really quickly.
Each and every member of staff from Kim and Frances in FC Woods to Carol the funeral director to Linda the celebrant- all were amazing, kind and considerate and helped what is a very sad time run as trouble free as possible to give my Nan the send off we all wanted and that she deserved.
We couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Thank you x
