From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
All at FJ Gibb, particularly Peter, were extremely helpful. On the day of Michael's funeral everyone was kind, helpful and sympathetic.
Dignity is definitely the word to describe their attentions.

I am glad that you chose F J Gibb Funeral Directors to take care of your Husband. I am pleased that you had the trust and confidence in our team to be able to deliver the service you expected.
F J Gibb recently took care of the funeral arrangements for my aunty. They were very respectful, compassionate and everything was well explained and executed with no trouble what so ever. The day went exactly to plan and even the dreadful weather did not cause any drama. We had just the basic funeral package which was perfectly adequate for us and the price was very good. Everything we asked for was provided without any fuss including our music choices and celebrant who was very kind and helpful and did a lovely job. We were very happy with the service provided and would not hesitate to recommend F J Gibb.
