From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
A very professional service from start to finish . Every member of the team made you feel that nothing was too much trouble. They guided us gently through the whole process. They were available round the clock for us. They took the trouble to explain exactly what was going on. They shared examples of the products and options open to us. The presentation in the chapel of rest was beautifully done. It evoked memories of a healthy times in my father. As well as doing everything that you would expect it was the extras that make this company stand out. Firstly they delivered to us a copy of the order of service so we would not need to worry on the day. They then gave us two blown up photographs of my father, one of which was framed. This now occupies pride of place on the mantle piece. Following the service they gave us a box containing a further copy of the order of service, together with a flower from the wreath. They then told us that they were always there if we ever needed anything . Truly a company that goes over and above the service expected at such a difficult time. I would recommend their services to anyone at this time in your life.
Thank you for an exceptional review. I am glad that our staff went above and beyond to deliver the service you expected and that we were able to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of a difficult situation and make things easier for you.

I selected Griffiths & Booth being a known and respected local funeral directors for the funeral of my wife. From the first meeting to organise when she would be needed to go to the chappel of rest, to the way they treayed her with resect and the funeral itself everything was handled extremely well. They looked after myself and immediate family through the whole process with kindness and at the pace which were more than comfrtable with. Very happy with how it all went under the circumstances
Thank you for posting your online review. I am glad that we were able to provide you with the dignity and respect needed at this time and that all of your wishes and requirements were carried out by the team as you had requested.
From the first phone call reporting the death of my mother I was dealt with efficiently but kindly, The help and advice they gave was invaluable to someone who has never had to deal with anything similar before. The choice of funeral brochure was good and the way that the music to be played was brilliant. Al the cremation service itself the funeral staff were punctual despite having to travel quite a distance, discreet but helpful in telling everybody what and when they were expected to do specific tasks and so relieving a lot of pressure. Although I hope I never have to repeat the experience, if I did Griffiths and Booth would definately be my first choice
. Thank you for sharing your sentiments with us regarding your experience. I am glad we were able to provide you with the support and guidance needed and that the arrangements for your Mother were carried out to your satisfaction.
The Griffiths & Booth team were helpful, kind and very considerate to our family whilst carrying out the preparation and delivery of our Mum's funeral. A special thank you to Joan for helping us through it all. A sad day made bearable by the way we were cared for by the funeral team on the day.
This is the second time we have used Griffiths & Booth, we were so well looked after we didn't hesitate to use them again.
