From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
The care both before and after the funeral was exemplary. Everything was explained about what would happen throughout the process and every family request was met without question. For me, this was the first time I had the need to make funeral arrangements and Debbie, the Funeral Director, was able to guide me through what was needed in a calm and thoughtful way.
Her care continued after the funeral by ensuring that everything went well on the day and that all our requirements were fully met.
It is a sad and difficult time for a family, but it was made less so by all involved at Leverton Funeral Directors. I cannot thank them enough for their professionalism and support, and would not hesitate to recommend them.

the most accommodating undertakers I have come across, nothing is too much trouble, polite and fantastic staff, I would highly recommend this undertaker and I am a florist, they have been so helpful compared to some other companies, I guarantee you will have a fantastic service from them :)

Debbie was very helpful, sympathetic and caring at all times. She helped make a very sad situation much easier to cope with and to understand. The small dealings I had with other members of the staff were just the same. I liked that Debbie was with me the whole way and I didn't have to explain myself all over again.
I would definitely recommend Levertons
