Crematorium information

Wear Valley Crematorium is a modern, state-of-the-art building, which opened on 2 March 2009 and is set in eight acres of well-maintained grounds. We are located six miles from Junction 60 of the A1 on the A689 just outside Coundon Village, and are ideally placed to serve the communities of Bishop Auckland, Newton Aycliffe and County Durham.

We are here to help you with whatever you would like for the funeral service. Our dedicated and caring staff treat every family with dignity and respect. At the service we will be there to help you every step of the way.

Our chapel can accommodate larger funerals and is multi-faith. We can help you arrange the service according to your cultural and religious needs. We aim to provide the highest possible standards of care in all aspects of our service.

The crematorium also has access for the disabled, disabled toilets, a hearing loop and has a speaker system throughout the building so no part of a service is missed.

Our gardens of remembrance offer a wide variety of memorials including rose beds and private gardens and have been designed to blend into the rural surroundings, the central feature being a beautiful lake. The gardens provide a tranquil and comforting environment for quiet contemplation. Our gardens can be visited out of normal working hours by appointment.
