John Kemp Funeral Directors in Canterbury is honoured to serve the families of the city, providing compassion and support during difficult times. We are here for you, and can arrange a fitting funeral for your loved one, tailored to just the way you want it.

Offering the highest standards in funeral care to our community here in Kent, we will ensure your loved one is looked after in the respectful and attentive manner you would expect. Our Canterbury funeral home can be found on St Dunstans Street in the city centre, not far from the Cathedral and the Marlowe Theatre. The central location allows us to serve the whole of the local community, along with nearby villages, such as Harbledown, Littlebourne and Chartham.

While in our care, you can visit your loved one in the serene surroundings of our chapel of rest, which we can open outside of normal visiting hours, if it is more convenient.

  • You don't have to make an appointment at our funeral homes. However, doing so will ensure that someone can be available to cater to your needs. When arranging a funeral, our Funeral Directors are happy to visit you in your own home, if required.


  • Third party funeral costs are additional charges which we will manage for you and attach to your single invoice. Get in touch with us to confirm costs and plan a funeral to fit your budget.


  • If you choose to arrange the funeral with us, you will be given the option of a complimentary Funeral Notice. We will set it up for you using the details discussed during the arrangements. All we need is an email address.


  • Dignity Funeral Plans let you pay for your funeral in advance and at today's price. It's a way of taking control of the unexpected, setting out the arrangements and limiting the costs by paying for the services included in the funeral plan upfront.

Wonderful thoughtful and caring service. Donna in the Canterbury branch couldn’t have been more helpful, caring and compassionate. Nothing was too much trouble, and every effort was made to make sure everything was prepared before the funeral.
Julie, who was in charge on the day, made sure everything ran like clockwork, which in turn made the event much more tolerable than could have been the case. Many thanks to all the staff we dealt with.

From the beginning to the end of our journey with John Kemp Funeral Directors we felt very supported. Donna rang me later in the day, after my husband died to say she was there for me and our family for any queries, need of a chat or advice about the funeral service etc. She told me her job was ‘Arranger’ and would be with us all the way through and has even rung me since the funeral to check that I am ok and then to say the ashes were ready to collect. She told me that she just wanted it to be the best that it could be and said that it was like a jigsaw and would all come together- and it did.I also had phone calls from Julie to explain who she was and her part in the funeral. Everything was arranged so smoothly. I didn’t realise that Donna’s job existed and that she could arrange for the obituary to go in the local paper. It was all such a help, at a difficult time. After a service in the church, that we were very happy with, Julie asked which way we would like to go to get to the crematorium. We went the country route and it was just looking stunning in the spring sunshine. It was good to be given that choice. You have a great team. Thank you so much from The Norris family

Very pleased with whole process with your funeral service. Felt very personal to us during an upsetting time on losing a loved one. Donna at your Canterbury branch was exceptionally helpful, patient and understanding , a credit to your company. We last used Kemp Bros. Of Canterbury for my late Father’s funeral back in 2013, the service then was excellent and I believe Donna dealt with that occasion for us also. Funeral Director and pall bearers were also excellent on the day, respectful , kind and professional. Altogether Very pleased, and would recommend John Kemp to anyone seeking a sympathetic, personal and professional service, many thanks.

There is nothing to fault with the exceptional service we received when our Mother passed away. From dealing with the paperwork and interfacing with the services (there was a memorial and then the final send-off the Crematorium), John Kemp were fantastic. The dignity, respect and sheer professionalism displayed by all of their personnel was, quite simply, awesome.
Even when the late request to transfer Mum's ashes to another Crematorium (in order to be with Dad...), it was swiftly, respectfully and efficiently dealt with.
The whole family would like to thank everyone at John Kemp's for making a difficult time a whole lot easier.
