From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
All staff were professional dignified and understanding at a difficult time of shock and grief.

Absolutely faultless from beginning to end. Literally faultless.
With Fulchers, I received a level of care and professionalism that I’ve not experienced with any other company before.
They didn’t just meet my expectations, they far exceeded them, right down to the courtesy call the day after the funeral to see how I was.
Lewis, the guy that I dealt with from beginning to end is a fair bit younger than me and I would be more than happy if he took care of me after I’m gone! Even the limo driver commented on his professionalism and attention to detail.
I genuinely could not recommend Fulchers highly enough.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us on your online review. I am pleased to hear that you found our staff to be professional and respectful and that that they went above and beyond to deliver the service you expected.
The staff at Fulchers made the difficult task of saying our farewells to my father as painless and smooth as possible. James was an absolute credit to your company and we cannot thank him enough for the care and compassion he showed the whole family.
