Longhurst of Epsom Funeral Directors

The Longhurst group has cared for families in Surrey for over 100 years.

Our history

The Longhurst name was trading at Church Road, Epsom in 1873 as builders, haulage contractors and undertakers. The business was run by a man named Edwin Longhurst, who oversaw the it later becoming a timber and builders merchants, in addition to funeral directors.

Longhurst also had an office in Dorking, with local directories indicating that the business was trading from 30 High Street in Epsom by 1925. During this time, another part of the Longhurst family had opened a funeral directing business in Ewell, under the name Alfred Longhurst.

In June 1935, the company switched its focus to undertaking, which was the occupation helping to conduct funerals and carrying out the tasks that came with this, such as making coffins. They traded as Longhurst Undertakers Ltd at 86 High Street, Epsom, with the monumental masonry side of the business based at East Street. By the late 1980s they relocated, opening a funeral home at 8-10 Pound Lane, Epsom, from where we continue to serve families to this day.
