About our Urmston funeral home

Here at Hopkins Bray Funeral Directors, it is our honour to serve the families of Urmston and give them nothing but the best standard of funeral care. For many years, the local community has entrusted us to look after them in their times of need and this is something we are proud of.

We have experience in arranging funerals of all types, no matter what your religion or belief, we will organise something bespoke and special for your loved one's funeral.

If a religious service is your preference, we are central to a number of local churches. Saint Clement’s Church, Our Lady & the English Martyrs, Greenfield Church, Unitarian Church and Urmston Methodist Church are all less than half a mile away.

Every aspect of the day can be personalised to meet your needs, from the cortege route to the flowers, to the music played throughout the service.

You can find our funeral home on Station Road, just a short walk from Urmston train station. There are a number of bus stops close to our funeral directors, which connect us to the rest of Greater Manchester, including our neighbouring areas of Carrington, Flixton, Stretford, Sale, Eccles and Trafford Park.

In our funeral home, we have three private chapels of rest, where you and your family can spend time with your loved one before the day of the funeral. You can use our chapels to say goodbye in your own way.

Frequently asked questions

When someone dies, the first steps will depend on how and where the person passed away. Our step-by-step guides will walk you through the practical steps. For additional support and personal advice, please get in touch with us.

You don't have to make an appointment at our funeral homes. However, doing so will ensure that someone can be available to cater to your needs. When arranging a funeral, our Funeral Directors are happy to visit you in your own home, if required.

Third party funeral costs are additional charges which we will manage for you and attach to your single invoice. Get in touch with us to confirm costs and plan a funeral to fit your budget.

If you choose to arrange the funeral with us, you will be given the option of a complimentary Funeral Notice. We will set it up for you using the details discussed during the arrangements. All we need is an email address.

Dignity Funeral Plans let you pay for your funeral in advance and at today's price. It's a way of taking control of the unexpected, setting out the arrangements and limiting the costs by paying for the services included in the funeral plan upfront.

We are a member of the National Association of Funeral Directors and as such we abide by The Funeral Director Code. We also have a legal obligation to try and ensure the person who is arranging a funeral has the right to do so, or has permission from those who do.

If you are aware that someone has been appointed as the administrator, you should only arrange the funeral with this person's agreement.

If there is no Will or Letters of Administration, then the responsibility would pass to the next of kin.

From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.

A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.

Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

We would recommend Hopkins Bray Funeral Directors as they are kind, caring and compassionate. They are very knowledgeable and help you through every aspect of arranging a funeral. They also understand that this is a very difficult time for loved ones. They have been absolutely fantastic with us when arranging both my mum and dad's funeral.

Hopkins Bray Funeral Directors Urmston were absolutely fabulous with our family during a recent bereavement. Nicola was there for us when we made initial enquiries and went above and beyond to ensure that everything was just perfect for our family at such a difficult time for us all. Nicola along with her colleague Robert supported and guided us through each step of our emotional journey ensuring our wishes were fulfilled to create a beautiful bespoke funeral for our loved one. We were kept fully informed at all times and as the funeral date neared, we were introduced to Stephen who contacted us by phone to introduce himself and to talk about what our wishes were on the day of the funeral.

As a family in mourning, we were all very grateful to Nicola, Robert, Stephen and their colleagues on the day of the funeral for all their care and compassion shown to our loved one on their final journey and to all our family as we said our goodbyes. We will always be eternally grateful to you all.
