From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
The loss of our mum was huge to us but she had already made sure she had a funeral plan in place and fully paid for, this helped immensely and I am certainly going to make sure myself and my partner do this so that our children do not have any worry.
From the moment we made contact with A H Apps Funeral Directors regarding our Mum's funeral plan it was all made so much easier. Our first contact was Keren who was fantastic and thoroughly explained each step to us. Keren helped with everything from contacting the priest to ordering the music we had chosen for the crematorium and everything in between. E-mails were going backwards and forwards between us making sure the order of service was perfect.
On the day of the funeral everything went like clockwork, the car drivers turned up on time and were very patient and dignified. The service went perfectly, our mum got the send off she deserved. Everybody commented on the day as to how lovely and how well the service went.
I would 100% recommend that anybody with any doubts about Funeral Plans or using A H Apps, you will be completely looked after at a time when care, comfort and patience are needed.
