From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

A most professional and caring service provided by all staff involved. Our appointed Funeral Director understood our wishes and dealt with them in a supportive and thorough manner keeping us informed at all stages before the funeral. On the day itself she ensured that everything went smoothly and provided dedicated yet unobtrusive support to all.

I could not have asked more from a funeral director. They helped us from start to finish. they guided us through a terribly hard time informed us of what we needed to do, advised us on all elements required in planning a funeral and were compassionate and empathetic throughout the process. On the day of the funeral they were supportive reassuring and extremely organised. I would definitely recommend them to others in this sad situation.

I can not thank everyone enough for all their support they showed my family and friends with the passing of my mum. From the moment my mum was in their care they gave me a helping hand in everything I wanted for my mums final journey. They gave my mum all the love and dignity she deserved in her final couple of weeks. Everyone went above and beyond and they even opened their doors out of hours so I could visit my mum 24-7. I must give a special mention to Louise who was my point of contact, she was absolutely amazing from the beginning. I would have no hesitation in putting myself and other members of my family into the hands of Lawrence for our final journey. Professional through and through.
Thank you for an exceptional review. I am pleased to hear that you found our staff to be professional and respectful and that we were able to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of a difficult situation and make things easier for you.
