Good’s Funeral Directors was established in the 1940s by Donald Blanchard Good, to support the people of Otley by providing a needed service with the highest levels of kindness, care, compassion and professionalism.
Donald Good was well known for his undertaking work, as well as building quality teak benches. A religious man and a well known Methodist preacher in the local area, Donald often gave talks about his expert knowledge of Oliver Cromwell.
For many years Donald carried out his work from his home in Whiteley Croft Road in Otley, using a rustic, wooden chapel of rest building further down the road.
In 1987, Mahony and Ward purchased the funeral business from Mr Good, continuing his work until choosing to relocate a few years later.
Good’s of Otley moved to High Dykes in 1994, where a new chapel of rest was built to uphold the consistent high standards that Good’s had become renowned for. Later, the business moved to the current funeral home at 12 Boroughgate.
Eventually Good’s Funeral Directors joined Dignity, and two years later in 2016 a sister branch, Good’s of Harrogate, was opened in Harrogate to help provide support for the wider communities in North Yorkshire.
Today we continue to provide the highest standards of care, continuing the work of our founder. Our funeral homes are equipped with premium facilities, and are regularly refurbished to ensure we can offer consistent quality.
