W J Winn Funeral Directors

The history of our Cornwall funeral directors

Our history

Since 1978, W J Winn has served the community of Cornwall with uncompromising compassion and funeral expertise. Our founder, Mr Winn, was a builder until 1993, but had always had an interest in setting up his own funeral business.

When a local funeral director in Lelant passed away, he decided to establish his company with advice from R J Rogers, a funeral director in Hayle. Mr Rogers was kind enough to lend his vehicles and premises to W J Winn, with the promise that if they were successful, they could take over the business when he retired, which they did so in 1980.

In 1985, four garages and a yard were purchased in Trenwith Terrace, St Ives, and these were knocked down and rebuilt as a funeral home, then W R Coombe in Hayle was acquired. In 1987, J H Daniel in St Ives was took over, and then Charles Bryant, Goldsithney in 200 and lastly, Marizion Funeral Services in 2008. Several of these funeral directors still trade under these names to this day.
