From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
In three words; Kind, Respectful, Dignified. Jo was excellent, accommodating, sensitive and made us feel really important and mum carefully looked after. Our driver, Jan, was a perfect example of presentation and driving excellence, the Hurse was beautiful and high quality. Our bearers took care of us and were with us every step to ensure we were ok as the family bore mum. Can't fault the service, David Stockwell have looked after our family for generations, and I'm truly glad that we have stuck with them in this generation succession. Tailored everything to our requests, chapel visits with mum presented beautifully and as we remembered and will remember her, rested at home the night before the funeral. Everything with procedure, dignity and care. Thank you for getting us through things so caringly and skilfully.
Excellent service. Very sensitive and prectical advice and a very professional service. Faultless.
Thank you for sharing your experience online. You are helping others to make more informed funeral choices, whatever those may be.
We were very pleased with the service provided by the undertakers and, particularly, Shani of the Monmouth branch of David Stockwell & Co and Russell of the Newport branch. They delivered everything that was requested and my stepmother would have been very happy with the outcome.
My only complaint (hence 4 stars not 5 stars) would be about the printers they used to typeset and prepare the Order of Service. It was not an easy job as it required the Latin to be on one half of the page and the English on the other half. However, having sent a mock-up of what it should have looked like, Shani and I had to return to them several times to get them to lay it out as we requested and to incorporate the corrections made. However, I presume that typesetting and production of the Order of Service is outsourced and not part of David Stockwell & Co.
Thank you for your 4-star rating and for sharing your experience with us. I am sorry to hear there was a problem with the Order of Service. If you do wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact our Complaint Resolutions Department. They are available Mon – Fri, 9 am – 5 pm on 0800 783 7171. Thank you.
I can't recommend David Stockwell enough, from meeting Shani who guided us through the arrangements to Russell and the drivers who escorted us on the journey to the Crematorium. So professional and caring, thank you all.
I am pleased to hear that you found our staff to be professional and respectful. Thank you for this positive recommendation, it is greatly appreciated
Very helpful and sympathetic staff and arrangements very easy to set up. Ashes delivered to us at home as promised. Stockwell's made the experience as stress-free as it is reasonable to hope for under these circumstances.
Thank you for leaving a review online for David Stockwell & Co Funeral Directors. I am happy that you confided in us as a team to take care of your loved one.
