They didn’t just look after Rhys — they looked after me too

After unexpectedly losing my partner, Rhys, following 14 years together, I was faced with arranging a funeral I never imagined I would have to organise. From the very beginning, the team at T J Brown & Sons in Brynmawr treated Rhys, me and our girls with genuine compassion, patience, dignity and care.

Lisa was absolutely incredible. I had endless questions, ideas, changes and little personal details that I wanted to get right for Rhys, and she never once made me feel like I was being difficult or asking too much. She understood how important it was to me that the day felt completely personal and reflected the person Rhys really was.

The care shown to Rhys while he was with them gave me so much reassurance. Knowing he was safe, respected and being looked after with dignity meant more than I can properly put into words. Lisa also allowed me to spend that final time with him, give him one last kiss goodbye and be there while his coffin was closed. That moment was incredibly important to me, and I will always be grateful that it was handled with such sensitivity.

The team supported all of the personal touches we wanted, including involving our dogs in Rhys’s final journey, and everything on the day was handled calmly, respectfully and professionally. The funeral itself was beautiful from beginning to end. It was emotional, personal and full of love, laughter and memories — exactly the send-off Rhys would have wanted.

The turnout showed just how loved he was, and the way T J Brown & Sons brought everything together allowed us to celebrate him properly.

So many people told me afterwards how beautiful and personal the service was.

Lisa and the team didn’t simply arrange a funeral. They supported me through one of the hardest periods of my life, answered every question, helped me with every detail and treated Rhys as though he truly mattered.

I genuinely could not have asked for better people to look after him. I will never forget the kindness, care and respect shown to both of us.

Their care and support didn’t end when the funeral was over either. Lisa has continued to keep me updated about Rhys’s ashes and memory items, and has remained available whenever I’ve had another question. That ongoing support has meant a great deal at a time when everything still feels incredibly difficult.

I would recommend T J Brown & Sons, Brynmawr, without hesitation to anyone needing a funeral director who will listen, genuinely care and make sure that every detail feels personal to the person being remembered.

Thank you for helping me give our Rhys the farewell he deserved. ❤️
