From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
This was the first funeral I've ever had to organise and I was very anxious about the whole process.
From my very first appointment with Chantel all my worries and anxieties disappeared instantly.
Yeatmans helped me plan the whole funeral giving me multiple choices to choose from, they were understanding and very kind and thoughtful regarding our needs.to the last detail.
They were there for me all the way to the end.
Thank you for taking away all the stress and anxiety during this difficult time.
Kind Regards
Andrew Dickson

From the moment they were notified to when we left after the funeral both Dignity and the funeral director (Yeatman of Southborne) were absolutely amazing. The director Leah was incredibly compassionate and absolutely nothing was too much trouble.
Dad would have been delighted with the treatment he received and the service was simply perfect.

My late Uncle Ray couldn't have had a better send off!! The professionalism of the team led by Leah Hardy was exceptional. The whole day ran smoothly and everything that was asked for was fulfilled. I have already recommended Yeatmans to a colleague and would highly recommend to anybody who has the misfortune to have to arrange a funeral. Leah was supportive and couldn't have done more for me and the family. The Celebrant Steven is also to be thanked from the bottom of our hearts. He spoke as though he knew Raymond personally which gave us great comfort. Thank you once again for your professionalism and obvious support and empathy. 5 star service.
