From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Very highly recommended, helpful and caring did everything to take the burden off the family. Bruce was exceptionally helpful. Many thanks, would give six stars if it were possible.
Cannot thank you enough for organising the funeral for my father Edward on the 22nd May, as someone who was dealing with this on my own, the stress and worry of doing the " right " thing for my father played on my mind.
Elizabeth who i dealt with from the Burnt Oak branch, could not help enough, and that feeling i had ,soon disappeared, the funeral went to plan and even tho it was a simple one i was happy how it turned out and i know my father would be also.
So thank you for all the staff from Sydney & Hurry, from the guys who collected my father from home, to the pallbearers, it was greatly appreciated .
Kind regards
Craig Black
Did a lovely funeral for my dad in early 2021. Really helped me with the organisation as I was on my own with it and covid restrictions were in full swing.
At Christmas, they live-streamed a memorial service to remember everyone who passed in the year. we still had some restrictions so that Christmas service really meant a lot. Thank you to all your staff who attended the church and all the effort organising service.
Thank you for your lovely review, it is nice to know that we looked after you and your family with care and respect.
Dealing with my deceased mothers estate has been very stressful, however organising her funeral was made stress free by the wonderful staff at Sydney Hurry.
The help and advice of Elizabeth was very much appreciated.
No detail or request was too much for her to arrange.
I am thankful for all her help in making such a sad time easier to cope with.
The entire funeral went off without a hitch due to their superb organisation.
