From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.

Linda helped in such difficult circumstances. She was kind, sympathetic, understanding. We was not rushed through any procedures. Everything was done to our wishes and more. Visiting our Mum in chapel of rest was a comfort to the family. Linda made sure that we were all ok and comforted us after. In a difficult time our experience with W.S Bond was exceptional.

On behalf of our family we extend our sincere appreciation for the sympathy, kindness, and professionalism during the loss of our beloved Joanna. Losing her was hard enough but knowing that we had Linda carrying out our wishes to such perfection, style and grace comforted us all.
She is an amazing representative for your company, this is the second time we have dealt with her arranging a funeral and it will not be the last. We always felt so comfortable in arranging everything with her. She is so kind and empathetic, she held our hand through the whole process and was in touch throughout. Linda added so many extra touches to make the day seamless and comforting. Her attention to detail was much appreciated. We are all so thankful she was there for us all.
