From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Highly recommend using this funeral director.
They were very professional from start to finish .
Marian Davis the funeral arranger was very empathetic and respectful throughout.
The flowers we ordered for my uncles coffin were stunning and very fairly priced .
We had a humanist to perform the service as my uncle was not religious , he also arranged the order of service and did an amazing job on both.

In such a time of sadness, we were to very grateful to Sherries and sons for the wonderful, caring support and organisation of our grandmothers / mothers funeral care and arranging. Marian Davies went above and beyond in our opinion to make the whole process so much more bearable. Marians communication, knowledge, professionalism and general care was to such a high standard that we will always be grateful for. Many Thanks the Whaley family.
Ronald P Sherry & Son, Bell St helped us with our dad's celebration of life.
Marian's down to earth personality, kindness and patience right from the start really put us all at ease. Nothing was too much trouble.
All staff involved from start to finish were respectful, and professional. The finished product from flowers, order of service down to the gorgeous willow coffin were all perfect, we cannot recommend them enough to take care of you and your departed loved ones.
A fantastic service from RP Sherrys in Bell Street. Everything was organised superbly for Christina and went to plan from the Mass to the Crematorium. The Order of Service booklets were well remarked on by all for their quality. Fabio and his team were excellent and special thanks go to Marian at the office for all the organisation and kind attention. Thank you for everything!
A fantastic service from Marian and all the team from the moment we made the sad phone call on the passing of my aunt through to the collecting of her ashes some weeks later. All of the staff were very accommodating to any requests we made and her funeral service was conducted with great dignity and respect. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking to plan for a funeral or to contact them at any time. Thanks again to them for their compassion and service.
