From 9 September 2024, there will no longer be a doctor's fee in England and Wales when arranging a funeral. This is because from this date, all deaths in England and Wales will be independently viewed, either by a relevant coroner or by a Medical Examiner and the cost will be met by the NHS.
A Medical Examiner is a specifically trained independent senior doctor who will scrutinise all deaths across a local area that do not fall under the coroner's jurisdiction. By providing a greater level of scrutiny over the cause of deaths; it is hoped that the introduction of Medical Examiners will make it less likely that unnatural causes of death will go unnoticed; that the number of deaths unnecessarily referred to the coroner will be reduced and that national data about causes of death will be captured with greater accuracy.
Medical Examiners, or Medical Examiner Officers, will also be available to meet with families, or their representatives, if they wish to discuss the cause of death.
Very good funeral directors Robert especially was very good very understanding Thank You Robert for the help I needed at such a terrible time from Gillian to do with Paul Sturdy
Kind, compassionate, efficient and excellent attention to detail throughout a challenging time. Monica at the Bayswater branch, a particular hero!
Robert was so helpful in organising our Dads funeral. He took everything into consideration and spent a long time finding an appropriate celebrant. He also made sure we were all ok on the day. Thank you for making this difficult process easier.
Fantastic service received by Paul and Robert to arrange my Gran's funeral and ensure everything ran smoothly on the day.
The team could not have been more helpful, from the first phone call with Sarah to make a appointment she was very professional. Then meeting with Paul to discuss the arrangements even though a very emotional time, Paul was very sincere and went though all the details and made sure I understood everything correctly. On the day everything we had arranged went like clockwork with Bruce ringing the day before to go though everything. A very professional experience, thank you all.
Thank you for sharing your experience with us on your online review. We know how special each person is and aim to convey this in all aspects of our work from the arrangements to the day of the service.
