Affectionately known as “Jimmy” to all who knew him, (Jimmy) See Chong Wong was a highly esteemed member of the Chinese community in Edinburgh. He was a devoted husband to Soek Wai Wong and a proud father of four children: Jason, Kevin, Raymond, and Sharon. His children, along with his two grandchildren, Kira and Kylo, brought him immense pride and joy.
Jimmy passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Thursday, 1st August 2024, at the Western General Hospital, after a brief period of ill health. Despite suffering a catastrophic stroke 15 years ago, he continued to live a fulfilling life, thanks to the unwavering support of his wife and family. In his final week, he was surrounded by his loved ones, a testament to the deep bonds he cherished.
We are immensely proud of Jimmy’s incredible career and his contributions to Edinburgh’s Chinese community. He founded one of the city’s first Chinese supermarket, Loon Fung Supermarket, that supplied the whole of Scotland, and later co-owned the renowned “New Edinburgh Rendezvous” and “Premier Mandarin Cuisine.” His dedication to providing high-quality Chinese cuisine left a lasting mark on the city. Beyond his professional achievements, Jimmy was known for his warmth, friendship, and community spirit, endearing him to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A service to celebrate Jimmy’s remarkable life will be held on Thursday, 22nd August 2024, at 1 pm, Warriston Cremetorium.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stroke Association in memory of Jimmy.
