On Tuesday 2nd July 2024 Matthew Mansfield (Hernandez) dearest son to Jean, loving Daddy to Leona, brother to Sarah and Ben, adoring uncle to Lauren and Eva, great uncle to Olivia, Rose and Theo.  Long standing partner to Laetitia.  Stepson of Alan and Katrina, stepbrother to Adam and Sam.

Cousin to Betty, Stella, Lisa, Daniel, Luka, Lee, and Peter.  Friend to Jared, Carlo, Rich, Craig, Jason, Fay, Louise and very many more; peacefully passed away at age 54 in Warwick, Warwickshire.

Matt was born on 7th July 1969 in Coventry.  His love of music and flamenco was a huge part of his life.  He spent his younger years teaching himself how to play the guitar and gained so many friends along the way.  Guitar playing filled up every spare moment of his time, and in 1999 he upped sticks and spent over two years travelling predominantly around Andalucía in Spain where he perfected his chosen passion of flamenco guitar.  He also enjoyed playing ragtime and blues. Nanu his beloved dog accompanied him on most of his travels and the duo were inseparable until Nanu’s passing in 2011.

Leona, his beautiful daughter was born in 2014 who was clearly the apple of his eye, he loved her so much.  Fortunately, many videos have been captured of the special times they shared together, and Leona will be able to treasure these special memories in the years to come.

Matt’s oldest niece Lauren shared an interest in boxing, and they would watch or attend live boxing matches.  He was a loving and fun uncle with his nieces, great nieces and nephew, always playing the joker and having them laughing till their sides hurt. He adored them and they adored him.

Matt was well known in Warwick and Leamington but especially on the pub scene including The Great Western, The Wild Boar and The Grand Union for holding ‘Night of the Musicians’ ‘Melody Lounge’ and a variety of open mic nights with local musicians.  He also helped organise events like Warwick Beer and Music Festival and the Warwick Folk Festival and other charitable events.    He supported and helped many up-and-coming musicians and music writers to achieve their dreams.  As if that wasn’t enough, Matt also worked supporting and caring for both disabled people and people who were homeless and struggling with addictions or mental health issues.

Matt was loved by so many people, with his easy conversation, his quirky wit, hearty chuckle and his kind and compassionate spirit.  The empty void he has left is now filled with love, and memories that will keep him alive in all of our hearts forever.

We can all be comforted by the fact that he is now playing flamenco guitar with Nanu by his side!
