Youngest son of Thomas and Gertrude Leigh. Brother to Alfred, George and Freda. Married to Hilda on 24th January 1959. Father of 3 sons Anthony, Michael and Christoper. Grandfather to Victoria, Peter, James, Megan, Elinor, Ann and Jonathan. Great Grandfather to Emily, Sam and Edward. Attended St. Mary's Primary School in Wigan and Thornleigh Grammar in Bolton. Completed his National Service in the RAF with a year based in Kenya. Worked for British Rail and then re-trained to become a secondary school Business Studies and Mathematics teacher at St. Thomas More school in Wigan. His first sporting passion was cycling, but he was more successful as a runner representing his county, Lancashire and country, Wales on numerous occasions. He retired at 50 and enjoyed a long retirement, travelling far and wide with his wife. He combined his love of cycling and running and took up a new sport Duathlon winning 6 consecutive World Championships in his age group. Passed away on 22nd January 2021. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.
