It is with great regret that we have to announce the death of Eddie Caswell, who, after a long and brave battle with ill health, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on 22nd February 2024. 

Eddie was born in Leicester, on 23rd June 1946. He left school at 15 and held various jobs in factories and labouring. It was during this time he developed a passion for trade unionism which would influence his great love for politics in later life.

Using his sheer determination and grand intelligence, Eddie studied part time whilst labouring until achieving a place at Bradford University at the age of 30. A man of many talents, he ran his own building business and lectured part time at Bradford College, becoming a full time lecturer when the building work came to an end.

Eddie will be remembered for his acerbic wit and one of a kind humour. His encyclopaedic knowledge of nature and walking was second to none, as was his love for auctions, chairs, paintings, having a fag and eating fish and chips at Busy Lizzies in Skipton. 

Eddie’s impact on those who knew him or simply met him was immeasurable, and they will never forget him.

He is survived by his wife, sister, five children and five grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by everyone. Please join us in celebrating the life of the irreplaceable Eddie Caswell.
