Ann passed away at her home in Torquay on the 28th of January 2024 from a six year battle with kidney failure. She lived a vibrant 84 years.
Ann was born and grew up in Birkenhead, England to Lillian and John Davies and became the eldest sister to Wendy and Margaret. She started her lifelong love of dance by starting lessons at the age of eight and performing in many school shows. In 1966, she moved to the Bahamas where she was in charge of the local liquor store and enjoyed the beaches and collecting shells. She spent a year in Tehran in 1973 and liked to say that she ‘danced the can-can in Tehran’. Ann returned to the UK and lived in London where she had various jobs before settling in the night shift as an emergency dispatcher at Paddington Station and Hammersmith Police Station. As a night owl her entire life, the night shift suited Ann perfectly. After retirement, Ann remained in London until her move to Torquay in 2014, where she loved visiting the coastal towns, enjoying the “English Riviera”, and being adopted annually by two returning seagulls she called “Daisy” and “Fred”
Ann kept busy her entire life. She took up ballet at the age of eight and loved all music and dance. She loved ice skating and tap dancing. She was quietly proud of her gold bars in tap dancing and performing in the Maypole dance at Kensignton Palace in 2010 as part of the English National Ballet. She travelled widely spending time in Australia, New Zealand, Spain, Italy, France, Jamaica and America. She loved musicals, gardening, shopping and the occasional rum and orange. She was generous and fun-loving donating to many charities and putting a smile on the face of everyone she met. To meet her was to love her.
Her departure is deep wound, and it is gravely felt by her entire family and countless others who loved her deeply in her wide-network of community. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and asks that you make contributions to the Renal Unit at Torbay Hospital in lieu of flowers:
